Girls Rugby is honored to have been awarded a development grant from the LA84 Foundation. This grant will focus on developing Girls Rugby program offerings in San Diego County and support the expansion to new locations and reach more participants.

“The LA84 Foundation has been a leader in youth sports development and to be able to work with this organization to bring more education and activity to young girls in Southern California is a privilege. We look forward to investing this grant into our programs in San Diego County to give more young girls the opportunity to be active and have a positive experience through sports.” stated Chief Operations Officer, Erin Kennedy.

Girls Rugby SoCal was launched in 2018 as a pilot program for Girls Rugby, Inc. This program has since implemented a number of flag rugby seasons and outreach events in the community with partners such as Girl Scouts San Diego, Girls on the Run San Diego, USA Rugby, and more. Upcoming programming expansion will include the addition of summer offerings, more outreach events and partnerships, as well as broadening the reach of the Fall/Winter and Spring seasons.

“The LA84 Foundation is dedicated to closing the Play Equity gap, and we are excited to support Girls Rugby SoCal as it provides an opportunity to strengthen participation for girls in youth sports. We will continue to prioritize growing all opportunities for youth development through sports and structured play.” expressed Nolan Ortiz, Director of Grants and Programs for the LA84 Foundation.

The LA8 Foundation grant will enable Girls Rugby to further the work being done to increase participation and promote leadership skills through serving the communities of San Diego county and beyond through sport.
